bowl of pumpkin lentil soup with spoon in it

Nourishing no-chop soup for your TSW and eczema healing journey

There’s something so comforting about a warm bowl of soup — especially when your body (and skin) are in recovery. While I love soup all year long, it became a lifesaver during my topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) journey.

At that time, even the simplest tasks could feel impossible — chopping vegetables, standing for long periods, or dealing with hot water when my hands were raw and sore. But I still wanted something nourishing, easy, and soothing for my body. That’s when this no-chop nourishing soup was born.

It’s simple, quick, and packed with nutrients that support your body and skin from the inside out.

Why this soup is great for your skin healing journey

When you’re going through eczema or TSW, your body is in repair mode. It needs gentle, anti-inflammatory foods that are easy to digest and full of nutrients to support your gut and skin barrier.

This recipe checks all those boxes:

  • Canned squash or pumpkin → full of beta-carotene and antioxidants to support skin renewal
  • Coconut milk → rich in healthy fats to nourish your skin and help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins
  • Lentils → a great source of protein, iron, and fiber for gut balance and energy
  • Warming spices → help circulation, digestion, and inflammation (plus, they taste amazing)

And the best part? No chopping. No peeling. No stress.

The no-chop nourishing soup recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of squash, pumpkin, or sweet potato purée
  • 1 can of coconut milk (full-fat for best flavour)
  • ½ cup of dried lentils (red or yellow cook fastest, can soak overnight for easier digestion)
  • 2–3 cups of filtered water or broth
  • Dried spices of your choice — try a mix of:
    • Turmeric (for anti-inflammatory benefits)
    • Ginger
    • Garlic powder
    • Cumin
    • Sea salt + black pepper
    • A touch of cinnamon for warmth

Directions:

  1. In a medium pot, combine your canned ingredients, spices, and water or broth.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add in your rinsed (or soaked) lentils. Stir well.
  5. Cover again and let it simmer until the lentils are soft — usually about 10–15 minutes.
  6. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve warm.

Optional: garnish with a drizzle of coconut milk, sprinkle of herbs, or pumpkin seeds for crunch.

My kitchen tip

When you’re healing from eczema or TSW, remember — it’s okay to simplify. You don’t need elaborate meals to nourish your body. Focus on ease, warmth, and gentle nutrition.

I love keeping a few cans of pumpkin, lentils, and coconut milk in my pantry at all times so I can throw this soup together anytime. Whether it’s winter or summer, it always brings me comfort.

A final note

Healing your skin isn’t just about what you put on the outside — it’s also what you give your body from within. Recipes like this are a small way to care for yourself with love and nourishment, even when energy is low or your skin feels fragile.

You’re doing amazing. Keep listening to your body, one bowl at a time.
